NATIONAL PARK KORNATI

National Park Kornati consists of 89 uninhabited islands, islets and rocks in an area of only seventy square kilometres. Due to the dangers of navigating through this maze of rocks, the Kornati feature many old lighthouses and islands such as Blitvenica and Sestrice, which are nowadays a destination for adventure-seeking travellers.

Kornati National Park is located at a distance of only 20 nautical miles from Rogoznica. From Rogoznica to the Kornati National Park you can go by private boat or rented boat, and during the summer season also by organized day trips at the excursion boats from Rogoznica.

VOTIVE SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF THE CHAPEL

According to legend, in 1722 a fisherman named John Bogavčić-Tuburko, working in the area of the Cape Gradina, saw a strange light. When he approached the rock from which the light was emanating, he found a picture of Our Lady resting on it, a depiction of Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth. He took the picture home and stored it in a trunk, but it mysteriously returned to the same place on the rock. This repeated three times. Soon the villagers and their priest decided to build a chapel on the site, and a ceremony that continues today was established in 1776.

KRKA NATIONAL PARK

With its seven travertine waterfalls at a total height of 242 metres and the Skradinski Buk, the largest travertine barrier in Europe, the Krka National Park is a natural and karstic phenomenon. The island of Visovac with its Franciscan church and monastery is also worth visiting.

National Park Krka is located at a distance of only 40 kilometers from Rogoznica. From Rogoznica to the NP Krka you can go by car or take very attractive, organized trip with excursion boat wich is available from Rogoznica during the summer season.

MIRACULOUS AND MYSTICAL CAPE PLANKA

Cape Planka, the easternmost point of the Adriatic, is a dramatic meeting place of winds, cyclones, and sea currents, dividing the northern and southern Adriatic. Here, towering waves crash against the shore, while at times, the sea remains perfectly still—a breathtaking natural spectacle unlike any other. Its influence extends to Dalmatia’s climate, making Rogoznica notably drier in summer, with just 60 mm of rainfall per month, nearly three times less than nearby Split and Šibenik.

DRAGON’S EYE LAKE

Lake Dragon’s Eye is a rare geohydromorphological phenomenon on the Adriatic, known for its unique flora and fauna shaped by its distinct physical and chemical properties. Located on the Gradina peninsula, it spans 10,000 square meters and reaches depths of 15 meters, surrounded by cliffs up to 24 meters high. Though it has no visible connection to the sea, water seeps through limestone cracks, creating an environment rich in hydrogen sulfide. This has drawn comparisons to the Black Sea and Norway’s Framvaren Fjord, making it a fascinating subject for scientists and explorers alike.

MUSEUM IN THE SEA

Cape Planka, known for its fierce jugo and bura winds, has long been one of the most dangerous sailing routes on the Adriatic. In the first century BC, a Roman ship carrying 150 amphorae of wine sank in the Bay of Gornji Muli, its wreckage still resting 20 meters below the surface. Centuries later, in 1942, the Italian transport ship Nuncio met a similar fate, torpedoed by a British submarine. With numerous shipwrecks from different eras, the waters around Rogoznica serve as a fascinating underwater museum, rich in history for both scholars and explorers.
